The Modern Troubadours was founded in 2013 by harpist and storyteller Sarah Nichols and percussionist Aldo Aranda. The company combines storytelling and music, creating original shows and educational projects. The company's philosophy is to discover and share traditional folktales from around the world in order to better understand different cultures and share passions and traditions.
Folk stories form an important part of a country’s history and culture. They are a national heritage and contain the entire culture of a community, which has followed this way of life through generations. By learning about and understanding our own roots and those of others, we can learn to respect and understand each other. Music is a powerful tool for connecting people, bringing them together and passing on an important message about love, tolerance and respect.
Since starting the company, they have travelled to Romania, Nepal, South Africa, Zimbabwe, France, the Netherlands, the UK and Spain. They have created educational projects and several productions, including "Traveling Stories" and "Fiesta de los Muertos". This last show was performed at several festivals and stages, including the Festival FIMU in France and the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015, where they received 4 star reviews as well as national television appearance.
